Goyang City is focusing on making the urban landscape better and more eco-friendly, especially by creating green car parks. One of the main ideas is to use permeable grass blocks for the car park surface. These blocks are not just for looks but also help clean up pollutants, reduce the heat island effect, and stop stormwater runoff that can cause flooding. The grass blocks are designed to keep at least 30% green coverage, and with a depth of three centimetres or more, they help grass grow well, adding a nice touch to the car parks. For smaller car parks, the grass blocks will be placed at the front, and for bigger ones, they will go across parking spaces and driving lanes to improve driving safety and performance.
Goyang City is also working on making sure pedestrians and vehicles do not get in each other’s way, so safety is a top priority. They are adding designated walkways and crosswalks, especially in larger car parks, and placing accessible parking spots closer to the entrances for better accessibility. The city is also enhancing the green space around car parks with things like flower beds, boundary planters, landscaped fences, and tall shade trees (over eight meters high) to bring more nature into the urban environment.
On top of all that, Goyang City is tackling parking issues. By 2027, the city plans to build transfer car parks in areas like Jichuk, Samsong, and Changneung districts, along with expanding the transportation infrastructure in new residential areas. The city is also rolling out the “Our Neighborhood Symbiotic Car Park” project, where unused private land is turned into small temporary car parks, and landowners get tax benefits. Goyang is also looking into multi-level car park solutions for existing public car parks to make the most of the space available and ease parking troubles in the city.
