The DELGOSEA Regional Workshop on “Enhancing Good Local Governance in Preparing for the ASEAN Economic Community 2015,” was held on 22-23 July 2014 in Vientiane, Laos.
About 22 participants attended the workshop, which consisted on local governments, local government associations, non-governmental organizations, academia and national governments, who are in charge of local governments issues in ASEAN, including the Mayor of Vientiane City attended the workshop.
The workshop aimed to further explore strategies and actions to enhance good local governance through DELGOSEA network and to prepare cities and local governments in meeting the ASEAN Economic Community 2015. The workshop also aimed to elect Chair and Co-Chair of DELGOSEA Standing Committee and to develop a work plan for the next two years.
The new Chair for DELGOSEA Standing Committee is Ms. Sri Indah Wibinastiti, Director of Program Development and Advocacy from Association of Indonesian Municipalities (APEKSI) and the Co-Chair is Ms. Marisa Lerias, Executive Director of League of Municipalities of the Philippines.
Furthermore, this workshop also provided good opportunity for cities and local government representatives in ASEAN Member States to share their best practices on good local governance.
26The workshop also helped to strengthened DELGOSEA’s policy papers and expanded the DELGOSEA network to all the 10 ASEAN Member States.
