BRLC 2020 Update

In April 2017, Hangzhou and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) jointly proposed the idea of establishing the UCLG-ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC). At the First Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, BRLC committee was established. Hangzhou is now the permanent location of BRLC Secretariat.

BRLC has held many activities to enhance collaboration among its members. Below are works done or planned to be conducted in 2020.

  • BRLC Official Website
    BRLC official website www.brlc.org.cn was launched on September 5th 2020. It provides various information including international news, committee news, past events, calendar, research data etc. You can also create your own event posts on the website, sign up for upcoming events and communicate with other members. The website will serve as a new platform for virtual conversation, enhancing online interaction and communication among members.

  • BRLC Scholarship
    BRLC Secretariat cooperates with universities in Hangzhou to grant scholarship to government staff and university students from member cities. Applicants will be subsidized for academic education and short-term non-degree programs provided by universities in Hangzhou. 2020 BRLC Scholarship Program has ended and we look forward to more applications for 2021 BRLC Scholarship.
  • BRLC Committee Meeting
    The 2020 BRLC Committee Meeting was held via video teleconference on August 20th 2020. Nearly 90 participants signed up for the meeting, including Song Jingwu, UCLG-ASPAC Co-president and Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Dr. Bernadia, UCLG-ASPAC Secretary General, Maria Moreni, the President of Italy-China Link Association, representatives of local foreign affairs offices and associations for friendship with foreign countries in China, and representatives of UCLG-ASPAC members and committee members of BRLC.

Over the three years since its inception, BRLC has been active in promoting mutual understanding among the members of the UCLG, especially in Asia-Pacific region, and has become an important platform for UCLG to expand multilateral exchanges and cooperation among cities and local governments along the Belt and Road.
