August 8, 2026 | UCLG ASPAC, host of the ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) Secretariat, participated in the 59th ASEAN Day Celebration held at the ASEAN Headquarters under the theme: Navigating Our Shared Future Together.
UCLG ASPAC was pleased to join the regional leaders, Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPRs), government ministries, ASEAN entities, and other ASEAN partners in commemorating this occasion and celebrating ASEAN’s continued journey of regional cooperation and shared development.

As an ASEAN partner committed to accelerating the creation of a barrier-free and inclusive ASEAN Community, UCLG ASPAC/AGMF strengthened its engagement with key organisations, including the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), the ASEAN Foundation, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Malaysia, and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), opening new opportunities for collaboration.
UCLG ASPAC/AGMF also received strong interest from diplomatic missions and national government institutions, including the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN (PTRI ASEAN), the Permanent Mission of Japan to ASEAN, the Embassy of Algeria, the Embassy of Somalia, and representatives from Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower. Engagement also extended to UN Women, the US-ASEAN Business Council, Southeast Asia Climate Action (SEAICA), further broadening opportunities for partnership and knowledge exchange in support of an inclusive and resilient ASEAN Community.

Throughout the celebration, UCLG ASPAC showcased the work of the AGMF, highlighting its role in providing a platform for collaboration and learning, implementing a range of projects, and serving as an ASEAN partner in localising the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
Through the showcase, UCLG ASPAC/AGMF underscored the importance of strengthening regional cooperation, empowering and engaging young people, and supporting livelihoods, in line with the priorities highlighted in the remarks delivered by the Secretary-General of ASEAN, the Indonesian Foreign Minister, and the President of the Philippines, who addressed the gathering through a video message as the 2026 ASEAN Chair.
In line with this, we once again invite cities and local governments across Southeast Asia to the 2026 ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF), to be held in Manila on 18-19 November 2026.
As a platform that consistently facilitates meaningful knowledge exchange and collaboration among city and local government leaders, the AGMF contributes to advancing a more inclusive, equal, and integrated ASEAN Community. The active participation of cities and local governments from across ASEAN will further strengthen collective efforts and the support needed to advance seamless regional integration.
