The Worldwide Initiative for Safe Schools is led by UNISDR with the active support and contribution from the Global Alliance members. It promotes a three-pillar approach to school safety:
- Disaster resilient learning facilities.
- School disaster and emergency management.
- Risk reduction and resilience education.
WISS is also mobilizing the political commitment of a growing number of interested governments in assuring the safety of schools and will be announced at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (14-18 March 2015, Sendai, Japan).
