Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez of Ormoc City

Once acting for the camera, now leading actions for the city. Mayor Lucy Gomez has successfully secured her mayoral term for the next four years. Her re-election reflects a high level of confidence from Ormocanons, leaving her with ample opportunities to continue what she has started. Let us look back at what she did in ensuring development in Ormoc City.

On several occasions, Mayor Gomez mentioned that one of her proudest achievements is the establishment of Ormoc City College (OCC). Opening doors in September 2023, OCC is based on a mission to provide accessible and good quality of education for local people. The school offers free tuition, a school uniform, and even a student tablet. “The City College of Ormoc is one of the sweetest fruits from our Tree of Dreams. It all started with a dream – to provide affordable and quality education for all Ormocanons. Now, CCO stands as the institution where students can realise their own dreams,” said Mayor Gomez.

Her other initiative, pushing modernisation in the city, leads to the implementation of the electronic Business One-Stop Shop (e-BOSS) system that promotes local economic development as it makes business transactions faster and more accessible. The initiative earned praise from the country’s Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) and was awarded a plaque of commendation in August 2024.

Under her administration, Ormoc City managed to sustain the highest recognition from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) of the Philippines, the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award in 2023. For the winning, the city received the SGLG marker and SGLG incentive fund amounting to PHP2.3 million (USD 40,569.47). “I am very proud because we worked for the whole year, and we don’t know when our work is going to be appreciated, and for us to snag the SGLG for a second in a row sits very well in our hearts,” Mayor Gomez said.

Mayor Lucy Gomez has shown her commitment in her first term, laying solid ground for the trust of her constituents. Her win has, then, become the celebration of the whole city, envisioning sustainable development and progress.
