Highlights

The province of North Jeolla, also known as Jeollabuk-do or Jeonbuk, is located in the southwestern region of the Korean Peninsula. With a population of 1,869,711 and a geographic area of 8,067 kmĀ², Jeonbuk is part of the Honam region.

In the 1960s, the Honam highway (now upgraded to the Honam Expressway) was constructed, creating an industrial belt that connected the cities of Iri (now called Iksan) and Gunsan (a port city) with the provincial capital of Jeonju.

Please note that while the name “Jeollabuk-do” is still commonly used, the provincial government has officially changed its name to Jeonbuk Provincial Government. This name change reflects the province’s identity and its efforts to promote regional development and tourism.
