Chongqing Municipal People’s Government

Chongqing city was under the administration of Sichuan province from 1954, but in 1997 it was separated from the province and designated       a provincial-level municipality under the direct administration  of the central government, the fourth one (after Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin) to be established.

By the late 20th century Chongqing was one of the largest and fastest-growing industrial centres in southwestern China.Trading and financial sectors have been established in the city, with national and foreign banks, insurance companies, and even stock-trading firms opening offices there.
