Carrying the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,” Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2023 has priority agendas in recovery and rebuilding, digital transformation, and sustainability. To support the Chairmanship, the AMF Secretariat is ready with the planning in 2023 to bring cities and local government leaders and other related stakeholders to meet and come together to discuss and solve the pressing issues the cities and local governments face in the region.
Therefore, for the realisation of AMF 2023 and expanding support until the grassroots level, UCLG ASPAC and AMF Secretariat initiated a meeting by gathering the lead persons from the Indonesian Local Government Associations (LGAs). The meeting was conducted in person on 30 January 2023 at Plataran Menteng Restaurant, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The meeting was attended by various Indonesian Cities and Local Governments Associations (LGAs), such as the Association of Indonesian Municipalities (APEKSI), Indonesian Provincial Government Association (APPSI), Indonesian City Councils Association (ADEKSI), Indonesian Regency Councils Association (ADKASI), and Indonesian Provincial Councils Association (ADPSI).
From the meeting, UCLG ASPAC hopes to get support from Indonesian LGAs for the realisation of AMF 2023 and strengthen ties and communication with Indonesian LGAs, lasting with good so far. From the meeting, the LGAs are also ready to collaborate for the success of Indonesia ASEAN Chairmanship 2023 and the realisation of AMF 2023. The LGAs also want to know what support could be given for the realisation of AMF 2023. Further, the LGAs hope the output could be used and implanted in the region until the grassroots issues. Therefore, after having the LGAs meeting, UCLG ASPAC initiated to hold the ASEAN LGAs Forum 2023 as continuous support to the Indonesian ASEAN Chairmanship 2023.
Concerning these plans, Jakarta is welcome to host the AMF back-to-back with the Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capital (MGMAC) 2023. Bandung also could be another option, and the governor of West Java appreciated it positively. Therefore, the possibility of having AMF 2023 and ASEAN LGAs Forum 2023 will consider the two cities as the host. Please stay updated on the upcoming information!
