Tourism Committee Workshop: For the Harmonious Development, Exchange, and Mutual Learning among Cities and Regions

23 March 2022 | UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee, initiated by the Xi’an Municipal People’s Government within the framework of UCLG ASPAC, is committed to encouraging exchanges and cooperation among member cities and tourist cities along the Silk Road and promoting the coordinated development, mutual benefit, and win-win situation of cultural tourism.

It is well known that the tourism sector touches almost every part of our economies and societies, enabling local people to benefit from its development. However, tourism suffers enormously under the COVID-19 pandemic, and many millions of livelihoods are in jeopardy. It is high time for cities and local governments to work together, sharing insights and practices on culture and tourism development.

Aiming to encourage in-depth discussions on measures the UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee can take to foster culture and tourism exchanges and innovation, Xi’an Municipal People’s Government hosted the Workshop on Culture and Tourism Development taking the theme “Tourism Contributing to the Harmonious Development, Exchange and Mutual Learning among Cities and Regions.”

UCLG ASPAC Secretary-General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi; Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, Mr. Feng Litao; Deputy Director of Department of European and Asian Affairs, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Mr. Hao Zhongwei, attended and delivered welcoming remarks virtually in the Workshop.

Eight representatives from member cities of the UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee, international organisations, and cultural tourism enterprises gave keynote addresses at the panel presentation session. Valued guests and panellists shared their insights on the implication of international culture and tourism exchanges and cooperation under the regular epidemic prevention and control, the harmonious development of culture and tourism among global communities, and the application of tourism-related internet services in the digital age while developing the culture and tourism industry.

The workshop achieved fruitful outcomes, signifying that the UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee has given its function as a bridge full play, providing increasing exchanges and cooperation channels for its member cities.

The UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee honours mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. It also extends a warm welcome to all member cities of UCLG ASPAC and tourism cities worldwide. With an even brighter future ahead, The UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee is looking forward for further participation with its members.
