This year’s organisation is the 21st since its first hosting in year 2000.

Taking theme ‘Let’s Enjoy Science, Let’s Have Fun in Daejeon’, the event showcased 50 programmes from five areas to be enjoyed by local people, including performances, lectures, and scientific experiments.

The event commenced with a drone show witnessed by around 300 citizens in presence. Attendees could also enjoy future science exhibition, KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) racing robot, Daejeon Robot Land, escape room, drone experiences, and see titan robot dancing and roaming around the venue.

Local people can also enjoy the event virtually, such as the ‘Daejeon Festival for the Gifted’ and ‘X-STEM’s. Additionally, events such as ‘Science magic and bubble show’, street dance performance, citizen observatory, and star festival were live streamed.

The festival was attended by visitors from Daejeon and nearby cities who wanted to enjoy science. The total number of visitors has exceeded the number of pre-pandemic era, a remarkable success considering the situation. It also showed stable operation of a hybrid format.

During this period, Daejeon UCLG Organising Committee took part in the event, showcasing various events for the participants in a bid to promote the upcoming Congress. The 2022 Daejeon Science Festival is planned to be held around the period of the 7th UCLG World Congress. The organising committee is planning on performances ranging from drone shows to K-pop concerts, along with various sideline events and tour programmes for members to enjoy. Daejeon truly hopes members would actively participate in next year’s Congress and have a pleasant experience.
