UCLG ASPAC extends its warmest congratulations to the newly elected Chairman of the Association of Indonesia Regency Government (APKASI), Mr. Mardani H. Maming.

Maming is currently the Regent Mayor of Tanah Bumbu Regency Government, South Kalimantan. With his extensive experiences and knowledge, UCLG ASPAC believes he will lead APKASI, a member of UCLG ASPAC, to attain greater achievements, and more recognition of the work and initiatives of the Association.

As the new Chairman, Maming’s first puts his focus is mapping out challenges faced by each regency under APKASI. This will help APKASI in linking the regencies with the international community, encouraging future cooperation opportunities.

“We expect to have some cooperation with the international community, for example in adopting best practices that would help solve problems faced by certain regencies,” Maming said during his recent visit to the UCLG ASPAC Secretariat.

In mapping out these challenges, Maming also aims to help localize the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enabling APKASI to see which challenges fit into the SDGs. He believes that the close relationship between APKASI and UCLG ASPAC will be advantageous to the success of this.

UCLG ASPAC Secretary General, Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, hopes that under Maming’s chairmanship APKASI will be more active in the programmes and global campaigns of UCLG within the Asia Pacific and worldwide.

“UCLG ASPAC will be pleased to be of any assistance in supporting and promoting the activities and initiatives Mr Maming has for providing better and improved services to the members of APKASI,” Tjandradewi said.

In 2010, Maming was named as the youngest regent mayor in Indonesia’s history to be sworn into the position by the Indonesia Museum of Records (MURI). He was 29 year-old when he entered the office. Despite his young age, he has accomplished many achievements throughout his service.

We wish the new APKASI Chairman great successes for his term!
