Asia Pacific Insights for Mainstreaming the Sendai Framework at Local Level in Africa: The 3rd Edition of the Forum of Territorial Managers and Training Institutes

10 – 14 June 2019 | MOROCCO – UCLG ASPAC brought Asia-Pacific insights to the 3rd edition of the Forum of Territorial Managers and Training Institutes targeting the local level in Ifrane, Morocco. Organised by UCLG Africa through its African Local Governments Academy (ALGA) and The Regional Council of Fès-Meknès and Al Akhawayn University of Ifrane, the Forum took the theme “Financing Learning, Training, and Capacity Building for Local Elected Officials and Territorial Managers in Africa: For Innovative and Sustainable Mechanisms.”

UCLG ASPAC, represented by DRR Coordinator Helmi Abidin, used the opportunity to share the organisation’s experience in empowering local governments in disaster management and risk reduction, update the progress of Sendai Framework localisation, and provide examples of best practices from Asia-Pacific region as lessons learned. He highlighted the importance of city resilient programs to achieve Sendai Framework Target E (to increase number of local DRR Strategy by 2020).

The insights were further used to enlighten participants and to enrich their discussion on the issue of financing learning, training and capacity building targeting local governments in Africa.
