60th Asia-African Conference Commemoration Ink the New Strategic Partnership 2015

ASIAN-AFRICAN strategic partnership is inked in Indonesia where the 60th Asian-African Conference Commemoration is now underway. 60 years after the successfully held Asia-Africa Conference or locally known as KAA in Bandung in 1955, Indonesia has once again revive the Spirit of Bandung and reinvigorate plans to boost cooperation between countries from these two continents.

All participants who gather in Bandung and Jakarta this 22-24 April 2015 are fully convinced that the Spirit of Bandung still functions as solid foundation to nurture better relations among Asian-African countries and to resolve global issues. This 60th commemoration of the KAA has led to the creation of New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) which serves as a blueprint for collaboration of the two continents in addressing poverty and underdevelopment that considered as major problems in Asia and Africa.

In commemorating the 60 Anniversary of KAA and the 10th Anniversary of NAASP, Indonesian government –the host of the event—will  hold a series of high level events under the theme  “Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity” in Jakarta and Bandung on April 19-24, 2015. Delegates from 109 Asian and African countries, 16 observer countries, and 25 international organizations are invited to participate in this important event.

30 heads of state  and  70 international delegates have issued their confirmation to participate this event. This forum aims to bridge Asian and African nations to stronger partnership and to share experiences in enhancing both regions’ economic development. It is also an opportunity to discuss solutions to overcome common challenges through strengthening South-South Cooperation.

Series of meeting take place from 19 to 23 April and the Commemoration of 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference will occur in Bandung, the capital of West Java Province on 24 April. The Asian-African Conference Commemoration aims to conclude three outcome documents, namely document contained Bandung Message, document on reinvigorating NAASP, and declaration regarding Asian-African nations’ support to Palestine.

“The 60th Asian-African Conference Commemoration is the right moment to remind the world that we played a significant role at that time. And, we hope that the memory and the legacy rise again,” said President Joko Widodo in a statement recently.
