The 9th ASEAN Entities Forum 2025: Localising the Vision, Realising an Inclusive and Sustainable Future

The Secretariat of the ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) participated in the 9th ASEAN Entities Forum 2025 on 18 June, joining ASEAN-accredited institutions and partners in advancing the region’s long-term vision toward 2045.

ASEAN Community Vision 2045, emphasising resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability. Discussions underscored the importance of collaborative governance in navigating global uncertainties, including climate change, economic transformation, and geopolitical shifts.

In his keynote remarks, Kao Kim Hourn highlighted the need for solidarity and shared responsibility among ASEAN stakeholders. Speakers across thematic sessions reflected on priorities such as inclusive leadership, green and digital transitions, supply chain resilience, and people-centred development. The Forum also introduced key directions under ASEAN’s Political-Security, Economic, Socio-Cultural, and Connectivity pillars. Participants engaged in dialogue on how their respective initiatives could better support implementation of ASEAN’s post-2025 agenda, particularly at the national and local levels.

For AGMF Secretariat, participation in the Forum reaffirmed the vital role of local governments in translating regional commitments into tangible community outcomes. Strengthening local engagement remains central to ensuring that the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 is not only articulated at the regional level, but effectively localised across cities and provinces throughout Southeast Asia.

As ASEAN moves forward, closer coordination between regional institutions and local governments will be key to building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for the region.
