invitation to all mayors and local authorities in asia pacific

Seoul Mayors Forum on Climate Change to be held from September 1 to 2, 2016 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Today more than 500 cities and local governments around the world are committed to the Compact of Mayors. 49 Cities are already fully compliant, tracking progress in a coherent framework, showing the global community the power of local climate action. The newly announced merge of the Compact of Mayors and the Covenant of Mayors, to be rolled out in 2017, will see enhanced support for local climate and energy action.

It is time to present progress, but also explore with mayors and local governments what support is needed to help them respond to challenges, in particular also considering the new relevant frameworks: Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), SDGs and the New Urban Agenda. The Forum will provide an opportunity to explore a pathway to further develop cooperation among leading cities, with a view to helping raise the global climate ambition.

The Seoul Mayors Forum on Climate Change will gather Mayors and senior officials from cities around the globe committed to the Compact of Mayors. The Forum to take place on 1-2 September 2016 at Seoul City Hall is organized by the city of Seoul in collaboration with ICLEI. A special highlight is the inclusion of the Second Annual Summit: Global Lead City Network on Sustainable Procurement (GLCN).

Join us also to celebrate the second anniversary of the Compact of Mayors, launched at the UN Climate Summit 2014 by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change, Michael R. Bloomberg, under the leadership of the world’s global city networks – C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40), ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) and the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), with support from UN-Habitat, UN’s lead agency on urban issues.
