With deep sorrow we inform you the passing of Mawardy Nurdin, The Mayor of Banda Aceh. The city of Banda Aceh is a member of APEKSI (the Association of Indonesian Municipalities). He passed away on Saturday, 8th February 2014 at 07.30 pm (GMT +7) in Banda Aceh, Indonesia after his long battle with chronic kidney disorder.
Mawardy Nurdin held the position of the Mayor of Banda Aceh for two periods. He was selected as the Mayor in 2007 and 2012 for the second time. He involved in many development projects in Banda Aceh, especially after the 2004 Aceh Earthquake. Under his leadership, Banda Aceh won the Adipura trophy three times, in 2009, 2010, 2012 and was chosen by United Nations as a “Model City” for Disaster Risk Reduction. We highly appreciate his dedication and he will be missed by his people and partners.
